CNF REU Program
The Cornell NanoScale Science & Technology Facility for Undergraduates (CNF REU) Program is designed to give undergraduate students an introductory research experience in nanotechnology. In 2017, we will hire five students who will be hosted by a Cornell faculty member. Each student will work on an independent research project using the advanced resources available at CNF and Cornell. Interns will take advantage of our training processes to quickly become proficient in advanced laboratory practices. Projects are scaled to be challenging yet achievable within the program's ten-week time frame. All together, the program offers an excellent ten week introduction to nanotechnology and a preview of a scientific research career. As an added bonus, this year the CNF REU will travel to Atlanta, Georgia, for a network-wide convocation at Georgia Tech, August 6-8. We will meet up with REUs from other National Nanotechnology Coordinated Infrastructure (NNCI) sites for presentations, posters and a little bit of fun. CNF REU interns receive a $5,000 stipend and housing, and all reasonable travel expenses are paid for directly or reimbursed. We also cover the costs of all CNF lab use and some research materials (cleanroom notebook, safety glasses, etc.). While we do not provide a meal plan, a great deal of free food is regularly available!

Howard Hughes Medical Institute EXceptional Opportunities Program (HHMI EXROP)

Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) EXceptional Opportunities Program (EXROP) matches bright and motivated undergraduate students from disadvantaged backgrounds and from groups traditionally underrepresented in the sciences into the labs of HHMI-supported scientists for summer-long research experiences. We typically match 60-80 HHMI EXROP students into the labs of our HHMI-supported scientists throughout the country and work with various local summer research programs at the various research institutions, so that our students can receive the additional support outside of the lab provided by experienced research summer programs. HHMI pays for all costs related to incorporating our EXROP students into the CNF REU program. HHMI EXROP students fully participate in all CNF REU summer program activities, except the NNCI REU Convocation. HHMI also arranges for and pays for all of our EXROP students travel costs to and from their summer program and provide a summer award in the amount of $5,000 directly to each student.

Keeping the Ezra Promise (KEP) REU Program

The KEP REU Program is a new summer internship program designed to make STEM more inclusive at Cornell University. The program is directed by Profs. Susan Daniel and Paulette Clancy, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Cornell University. While the KEP REU hiring process and specific benefits are different from CNF / PARADIM*, the KEP REU Program is being “adopted” by the CNF REU Program! KEP REU interns will follow the same basic schedule, summer calendar, and intern expectations as the CNF REU interns. Once the KEP REU interns are hired by Profs. Susan Daniel and Paulette Clancy, Melanie-Claire will be in touch to plan our summer together! (* If you receive an internship offer from KEP REU, the letter you receive will outline the specifics of stipend, travel and housing. Be sure to read carefully and respond in a timely manner to your offer!)
