UNDERGRADUATE CLEANROOM ACCESS RESTRICTIONS

All undergraduate summer interns have restricted access to the CNF cleanroom.

FIRST WEEK: From the moment you arrive in Ithaca through to Monday, June 10, you are NOT allowed into the cleanroom AT ALL, except as part of the CNF short course. Not even for a tour with your mentors or something like that.

SECOND WEEK: You'll receive your CNF New User Training on Monday and Tuesday, June 10th and 11th. There will be a detailed schedule for the second week, covering your New User Training and relevant tool trainings.

ASSUMING YOU PASS YOUR NEW USER TRAINING:

Undergraduate CNF User (UCU) restrictions start with Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. cleanroom and second floor access*. No access from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. From 6:00 p.m. on Friday thru 8:00 a.m. on Monday, UCU are not allowed in our cleanroom or labs, period.

* We request that mentors accompany their interns into the cleanroom and labs through-out June. This helps keep them and us safe, helps you track their development as a collaborative researcher, and helps your intern achieve success in the very limited timeframe they are given.

After 50 hours of lab time, reasonable tool usage, and demonstration of safe lab practices, UCU should meet with Phil Infante, CNF Lab Safety Manager, who will decide to grant "extended access" Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-11:00 p.m. — or not!

After 100 hours of lab usage and reasonable tool usage, UCU should meet with Phil Infante, CNF Lab Safety Manager, who will decide to grant full 24/7 access privileges — or not!

So — YOU must talk to Phil Infante when you feel you are close to the 50 hour / 100 hour lab time marks. He will determine if your next access level is appropriate. (BTW, you'll meet Phil at the Welcome Lunch and CNF TCN short course, plus I'll point out where his office is during orientation, so you'll know him well by the time you get to 50 hours!)

Any Undergraduate CNF User who demonstrates that they cannot follow these restrictions or other lab policies will NOT be given unrestricted access at any time.
